Lighting
Some museum spaces have low level lighting. All visits to the museum are guided to ensure visitors can safely access and enjoy the experience. Bathroom /restrooms and safety critical spaces and corridors are well lit.

Disability Awareness or Equality Training
All staff receive disability awareness and equality training as part of their induction, with regular refresher sessions. This ensures our team can confidently support visitors with a wide range of access requirements.
Emergency Evacuation Plan for Visitors with Disabilities
We maintain General Emergency Evacuation Plans (GEEPs) that account for the needs of disabled visitors. Our team is trained to support swift, safe evacuation procedures for guests requiring assistance in an emergency.
Free Familiarisation Visits
We offer complimentary familiarisation visits, allowing guests to explore the venue in advance. This service helps individuals, families, carers, or support workers better prepare for their visit.
No Fast-Track Queueing
Due to the nature of what we do Fast-track queueing is not available for disabled customers. To reduce wait times please book ahead and let us know about your requirements. We offer supports visitors who may experience distress, fatigue, or discomfort in queues.
Touch Tours
Touch tours are available to support blind or partially sighted visitors, offering guided, tactile exploration of exhibits or spaces. These tours can be booked in advance and may take place before regular opening hours or performances.
Quiet Tours
We offer quiet tours, subject to availability, where noise, lighting, and general sensory stimulation are reduced. These calmer visits are ideal for visitors with sensory sensitivities, such as autistic guests or those with anxiety.
Relaxed Performances
We provide relaxed performances with adjusted sensory conditions, including reduced volume, softer lighting, and flexible audience movement. Visitors may bring their own food and choose non-reserved seating where appropriate.

Facilities & Equipment
Emergency Alarm with Flashing Lights
Emergency alarm systems include flashing strobe lights to alert Deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors in the event of a fire or emergency. These alarms are located throughout the venue for clear visibility.
Quiet Space
The museum is designed as a quiet space to afford visitors who may need a calm environment. This provides a low-stimulus setting, except for designated performances, for your visit.

We welcome Dogs.
Wheelchair-Accessible Toilet in Public Areas
A dedicated wheelchair-accessible toilet is available in the main public areas. It features step-free access, a 1500mm x 1500mm manoeuvring area, outward-opening door, transfer space with drop-down grab rail, fixed grab rails, and an emergency assistance alarm reachable from the floor.
Seating at Regular Intervals
Seating is provided at approximately every 15 metres throughout the venue, offering regular rest points for visitors who need to pause during their journey.
Wheelchair and Scooter Loan
Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available for visitor use at no extra charge. These can be reserved in advance or requested upon arrival, subject to availability.
Sensory Equipment
We offer a range of sensory equipment, which may include bubble tubes, fibre-optic lights, projectors, ear defenders, and fidget items. These resources help support visitors with sensory needs.
Wheelchair or Scooter Charging Point
At least one dedicated charging point is available on site for visitors’ wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
Adapted Equipment On Site
Our venue offers adapted equipment to enable full participation in experiences. This may include accessible play equipment, hoists for relevant activities, or other specialised supports. Full details and specifications are available upon request.

Changing Places Toilet
A fully equipped Changing Places facility is available, including an adult-sized changing bench, hoist, accessible toilet, and sink. This facility is registered with the official Changing Places network.

We are wheelchair-accessible for, and provide clear sightlines to, performances, presentations, or activities.
Parking
Designated Accessible Parking
Accessible parking bays are located within 150 metres of the main entrance. Bays are clearly marked and designed to accommodate vehicles with ramps or lifts.
Step-Free Route with Firm Surface
A step-free route with a smooth, firm surface connects the accessible parking area to the entrance. This route is suitable for wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility aids.

Automatic Door at Accessible Entrance
An automatic door—activated by an accessible push-button—is available at the main or step-free entrance, ensuring smooth and independent entry for all visitors.

Step-Free Access to All Areas
All public areas in the venue, including accessible toilets, can be reached without encountering steps. Ramps, lifts, and wide doorways minimum width 800 mm (31.5 Inches) support movement around the venue.
Single Level Venue
The venue is on a single level with no steps or raised thresholds, enabling easy navigation for wheelchair users and others with mobility needs.
Rearrangeable Tables and Chairs
Chairs can be rearranged on request to accommodate wheelchairs or specific access needs.
Retail
Wheelchair-Accessible Retail Outlet
Our retail outlet offers step-free access, wide aisles, and sufficient space for wheelchair and mobility scooter users to browse comfortably.
Staff Assistance
Trained staff are available to assist disabled customers, such as retrieving items from high shelves or providing guided support for blind or partially sighted visitors.
