Heritage Week

During National Heritage Week (21-29 August 2010) we present Water Stories - A series of guided tours with the theme of water in Irish stories and folklore.

Many of Ireland’s legends, stories and superstitions have strong connections to water.  Travel through the museum with one of our storytellers as he tells well known (and not so well known) stories including The Children of Lír and The Salmon of Knowledge, in addition to tales about rivers, Holy Wells, Otherworld water creatures, mythical islands and Fairy encounters.

*Standard tours through the museum are generally self-guided, meeting a storyteller or two along the way.  During these special Heritage Week events, a storyteller leads you through your entire journey through the museum.

Spaces are limited, so advance booking is advised.  Book your tickets for Water Stories now.

National Heritage Week is a week long celebration of who we are and where we’ve come from.

There is something taking place in every county and everyone is encouraged to get involved.  Activities range from fairs, night-time bat walks, wildlife tours and lectures to music recitals, historical re-enactments, and outdoor activities.
