A man, late at night, meets a stranger who brings him into a fairy rath. There is a great feast there, and he is offered food. However, another human, who is with the fairies at the feast, warns him not to eat or drink there. He obeys this instruction, and when morning comes he finds himself outside the fort, back in the real world. To eat or drink fairy fare means that one never returns to the human world.
A man is bringing a horse to the market when he meets a stranger (a fairy). The stranger buys the horse from him, and pays for it in gold sovereigns. Later, however, when the man looks in his beg, he finds that the sovereigns have turned into withered leaves.
A man buys some pigs from a stranger (a fairy) at the market, and brings them home. Next day, when he inspects the pig-sty, he finds that they have turned into pieces of straw.
