Taibhse

A dead person returning to ask a favour of the living is called a taibhse (apparition). These ghosts are harmless and benevolent. The strangest ghost of all is a taise (doppelganger) – that is, the apparition of a living person. Most dangerous of all, of course, is to meet one’s own taise – that is a sign of either madness or approaching death.
